As a wedding photographer, I've had the privilege of capturing countless love stories, each unique and special in its own way. Florida has such a rich history and dynamic landscape and because of that some really incredible wedding venues! St. Augustine is easily the most romantic city in Florida with it's cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and waterfront charm. It makes it an incredible choice for a destination wedding in Florida.
Recently, I had the honor of photographing a breathtaking winter wedding at one of St. Augustine's iconic wedding venues: The Lightner Museum. Nestled in the heart of this historic city, The Lightner Museum provided a magical backdrop for a couple's wedding celebration that was as enchanting as it was memorable.
A Winter Wonderland at The Lightner Museum
January may be known for its chill, but the courtyard of The Lightner Museum adorned in lights added a warm glow to this wedding ceremony. St. Augustine is famous for its 'Night of Lights' which runs the end of November through end of January yearly, making it the perfect destination for a winter wedding feel, even in Florida. With the festive Christmas lights still twinkling, the museum was transformed into a warm winter wonderland. The palm tree wrapped lights added a warm, romantic glow to the ceremony space, creating a perfect setting for the couple’s “I do” moment. The way those lights danced off the historic architecture and filled the courtyard with a soft, golden light was simply magical. As a photographer, capturing their ceremony moments amidst the twinkling lights was an absolute dream.

The courtyard at The Lightner Museum offers a truly unique setting for a wedding ceremony, with its historic charm and picturesque details. One of the standout features of this space is the stone bridge where the couple are married. Positioned elegantly on this bridge, the couple stands together as they exchange vows, framed by the lush surroundings and classic architecture of the museum. Photographing this special moment requires a photographer experienced with the venue, as capturing the ceremony on the bridge can present distinct challenges. The couple enters from opposite sides and remains on the bridge throughout the ceremony, requiring a careful approach to ensure every shot is composed beautifully without interfering the view and intimate feel for the guests. Strolling through the romantic corridors and lush courtyards of The Lightner Museum, we were able to capture their love story in various photogenic spots around the museum and picturesque spots within walking distance in historic St. Augustine.
